Ruta Futi

Memorial dedicated to Ruta Futi

A memorial honouring the life and legacy of Ruta Futi.

Hearts filled 25 September 1944 – Hearts broken 15 December 2025

In Loving Memory

Ruta Futi (25 September 1944 – 15 December 2025) is remembered by her family as a beloved mother, grandmother and cherished member of her family and community.

Her life is honoured through a deeply personal memorial that reflects her family's love, Samoan heritage, Christian faith and the lasting influence she had on those closest to her.

For her family, the memorial is more than a monument. It is a place to remember who she was, celebrate the life she lived and keep her presence close through the memories and values she left behind.

A Mother's Love and Legacy

The words chosen by Ruta's family for her memorial express the profound place she held in their lives:

"Gods greatest gift to our family near & afar is our Mum kindness."

Her family also pays tribute to her lifelong example of service, hard work and kindness, describing how she helped everyone she loved and inspired future generations to carry on her legacy.

The memorial includes a message that speaks to the strength of family bonds across generations:

"Generations to come will change but your strong foundation & love for us all will forever remain."

These words reflect a legacy that extends beyond one lifetime. The love, guidance and foundations established by a mother continue through her children, grandchildren and the generations that follow.

Family and Samoan Heritage

Ruta's memorial reflects her family's Samoan identity and connections to their homeland. The word FALEU is prominently displayed across the base of the monument.

In a message shared in response to the memorial, her daughter Florence explained that Faleu is her mother's village on the beautiful island of Manono Tai, Samoa.

This connection gives the memorial a special cultural meaning. It honours not only Ruta as an individual, but also the family, village and heritage that remain part of her story.

The memorial incorporates the Samoan flag and messages in Samoan and English, bringing together cultural identity, family remembrance and faith in a single place.

Faith and Remembrance

Christian faith is an important part of Ruta's memorial. Its inscriptions include biblical references to 2 Timothy 4:7 and 1 Corinthians 13:4–8, reflecting themes of perseverance, love and spiritual devotion.

The memorial also carries the words:

"Rest in Eternal Peace Mum"

and

"Your legacy lives on through us."

These messages express both the family's grief at her passing and its hope that her love and example will continue to guide those who remember her.

A Family's Tribute

Following the completion of the memorial, Florence shared her appreciation for the finished work, writing:

"Thank you so much Devin. It feels so much better visiting Mum now. Looks amazing."

She also described the meaning of the memorial and its connection to her mother's village and family:

"This special headstone represents who she was to her family. Forever you were always enough for us Mum ❤️"

Her words capture the purpose of a memorial: not simply to mark a resting place, but to create a meaningful space where love, identity and memories can continue to be expressed.

The Memorial

Ruta's memorial features polished black granite, a personalised portrait, a central white cross, the Samoan flag, bilingual inscriptions and decorative elements inspired by Samoan patterns.

The design brings together personal family messages, cultural identity and religious symbolism. Each element contributes to a memorial that tells a story about the person being remembered and the people who continue to cherish her.

The monument stands as a lasting tribute to Ruta Futi and the enduring bond between a mother and her family.

Remembering Ruta

A person's life cannot be fully captured by a name and two dates. It lives on in the people they loved, the values they passed down, the places they called home and the memories shared by those who knew them.

Ruta's story continues through her family, her Samoan heritage and the love expressed in the memorial created in her honour.

May her memory remain a source of comfort, connection and strength for her children, grandchildren and future generations.

Forever loved. Forever remembered.
