LovedForever:Privacy policy
LovedForever Privacy Policy
Effective date: 19 September 2026
LovedForever is committed to protecting the privacy of our users, contributors, families, and the people whose lives are remembered through our memorials.
LovedForever is a memorial wiki designed to help families and friends preserve life stories, photographs, memories, and personal histories.
This Privacy Policy explains what information LovedForever may collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, when we may share it, and the choices and rights available to you.
LovedForever operates in New Zealand and seeks to handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and applicable New Zealand privacy principles.
1. Our Privacy Principles
LovedForever follows several basic principles:
- We collect only information that is reasonably necessary for the operation and purposes of LovedForever.
- We explain how personal information is collected and used.
- We do not sell personal information to third parties.
- We do not use personal information for unrelated marketing purposes without an appropriate basis.
- We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from unauthorised access, use, alteration, disclosure, or loss.
- We allow individuals to request access to and correction of personal information held about them, subject to applicable law.
- We do not retain personal information for longer than reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, unless a longer period is required or permitted by law.
- We limit disclosure of personal information to circumstances where there is an appropriate purpose, legal basis, or authorisation.
2. Information You Provide
You may provide information to LovedForever when you:
- Create an account;
- Create a memorial;
- Edit or contribute to a memorial;
- Upload photographs or other media;
- Write a Story or memory;
- Participate in discussions;
- Contact LovedForever;
- Report content or request assistance;
- Submit feedback; or
- Otherwise use features of the website.
Depending on the feature you use, information may include:
- Your username;
- Email address;
- Name or display name;
- Photographs;
- Stories and memories;
- Biographical information;
- Family relationships;
- Dates and places;
- Memorial information;
- Other information that you voluntarily provide.
You do not need to provide information that is not reasonably necessary for the feature you are using.
3. Information About Other People
LovedForever is different from many ordinary websites because users may create memorials about other people.
For example, a family member may create a memorial for a parent, grandparent, partner, or friend.
A contributor may therefore provide information about a person who does not have a LovedForever account.
Where personal information about another person is provided, contributors should consider whether they have the appropriate authority or permission to provide that information and should respect the privacy and wishes of the person and their family.
Where information is collected indirectly from someone other than the person concerned, LovedForever will take reasonable steps to comply with applicable New Zealand privacy requirements.
In particular, New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020 includes requirements concerning the collection of personal information from sources other than the individual concerned.
4. Public Memorial Information
LovedForever is designed around the preservation and sharing of memorial information.
Information intentionally published on a public memorial may be visible to other visitors to the website.
This may include:
- A person's name;
- Birth and death dates;
- Life story;
- Photographs;
- Family information;
- Stories;
- Memories;
- Timeline information;
- Memorial information; and
- Other information that a contributor intentionally publishes.
Please think carefully before publishing personal information.
Once information is published on a public memorial, it may be copied, quoted, indexed by search engines, or viewed by people outside LovedForever.
LovedForever cannot guarantee that information voluntarily made public will remain exclusively within LovedForever.
5. Wiki Contributions
LovedForever uses wiki technology that allows authorised users and contributors to create and edit content.
Contributions may be associated with your account, username, or other contributor information depending on how the website is configured.
Edit histories may be retained to maintain the integrity of memorial pages and to allow the community and administrators to understand how content has changed.
This means that editing a memorial page is different from submitting information through a private form.
If you do not want information to become part of a public memorial, do not publish it as a public contribution.
6. Account Information
If you create a LovedForever account, we may collect information necessary to operate that account.
This may include:
- Username;
- Password information;
- Email address;
- Account preferences;
- Contributions;
- Account activity; and
- Information necessary to maintain account security.
Passwords should be stored using appropriate security measures and should not be stored in plain text.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.

LovedForever does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.
We do not provide personal information to third parties for the purpose of allowing them to independently market products or services to you.

Where appropriate, LovedForever seeks to ensure that service providers handle personal information consistently with applicable privacy requirements and only for authorised purposes.
13. Information Stored Outside New Zealand
Some service providers or technical infrastructure used by LovedForever may be located outside New Zealand.
Where personal information is disclosed to an organisation outside New Zealand, LovedForever will take reasonable steps to comply with the requirements of the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 relating to overseas disclosure.
Depending on the circumstances, this may include ensuring that the recipient is subject to comparable privacy safeguards, is required to protect the information through contractual arrangements, or obtaining appropriate authorisation where required.
14. Data Security
LovedForever takes reasonable security measures designed to protect personal information from:
- Unauthorised access;
- Unauthorised disclosure;
- Loss;
- Misuse;
- Alteration; and
- Destruction.
Security measures may include access controls, password protection, server security, backups, software updates, monitoring, and other appropriate technical and organisational measures.
However, no internet service can guarantee absolute security.
Users should therefore avoid publishing highly sensitive information unless there is a clear reason to do so.
15. Personal Information About Children
LovedForever may contain memorial information about people who died at a young age.
We recognise that information concerning children and young people may require particular care.
Users should exercise appropriate caution before publishing information about living children or young people.
LovedForever may remove or restrict information where it considers that publication creates an unreasonable privacy or safety risk.
16. Photographs and Other Media
Photographs, videos, documents, and other media uploaded to a public memorial may become publicly accessible.
Before uploading material, contributors should consider:
- Whether they have the right or permission to upload it;
- Whether it contains personal information about living people;
- Whether children appear in the material;
- Whether the people shown would reasonably expect the material to be public; and
- Whether the material contains sensitive information.
LovedForever may remove material where necessary to address privacy, legal, copyright, safety, or other legitimate concerns.
17. Access to Your Personal Information
You may request access to personal information that LovedForever holds about you, subject to applicable law.
You may contact us to ask:
- What personal information we hold about you;
- How that information is being used;
- Where appropriate, who it has been disclosed to; and
- Whether the information can be corrected.
We may need to verify your identity before responding to an access request.
18. Correction of Personal Information
If you believe personal information held by LovedForever about you is inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading, you may request that it be corrected.
Where appropriate, we will take reasonable steps to correct the information.
For publicly editable memorial content, correction requests may also be handled through the normal editing or content-management processes.
19. Deletion and Removal Requests
LovedForever is intended to preserve memorial information over the long term.
For this reason, not every request to remove information from a memorial will automatically result in permanent deletion.
However, we will consider requests to remove or restrict personal information, particularly where:
- The information was published without appropriate authority;
- The information creates a significant privacy or safety concern;
- The information is inaccurate or misleading;
- The information was obtained or published improperly;
- Removal is required by law; or
- Other circumstances justify removal.
Where appropriate, we may remove information from public display, restrict access, correct it, or take other reasonable steps.
20. Memorial Information and Deceased Persons
LovedForever is primarily a memorial platform and therefore much of the information on the website concerns people who have died.
Privacy laws generally focus on information about living individuals. However, information about a deceased person may contain personal information about living family members or other individuals.
For example, a memorial may contain:
- Family relationships;
- Contact information;
- Photographs;
- Personal stories;
- Information about living relatives; or
- Other information concerning living people.
LovedForever will therefore consider the privacy interests of living individuals when reviewing appropriate requests concerning memorial content.
== 21. Search Engines and Third Parties
Public memorial pages may be indexed by search engines.
LovedForever does not control how independent search engines display, cache, index, or reproduce publicly available information.
Third-party websites may also independently copy or reference information that has been made publicly available.
Their handling of information is governed by their own policies.
22. Data Retention
LovedForever aims to retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected.
Some information may need to be retained for longer periods because it is necessary to:
- Maintain the integrity of memorial pages;
- Maintain edit histories;
- Protect the security of the website;
- Resolve disputes;
- Meet legal obligations;
- Prevent abuse; or
- Preserve the historical record of the LovedForever project.
Where personal information is no longer reasonably required, LovedForever will consider whether it should be deleted, anonymised, or otherwise securely disposed of, subject to applicable law and legitimate archival purposes.

LovedForever may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
Changes may be made to reflect:
- Changes in the law;
