Galusoʻo Halaevalu Amio Sorvana Williams (1 May 2004 – 10 August 2025), known as Sorvana Williams, was a Samoan vocalist, K-pop performer and music educator from Ōtara, South Auckland, New Zealand. She gained recognition in 2022 after winning the Aotearoa selection for the World K-pop Festival and being selected to represent New Zealand at the Changwon K-pop World Festival in South Korea.

Early life and education

Sorvana Williams was born on 1 May 2004 and grew up in Ōtara, South Auckland. She attended Tangaroa College and developed an interest in music and performance.

Music and performances

In 2022, Sorvana participated in the New Zealand selection for the World K-pop Festival. She won first place in the Aotearoa selection and was selected, alongside members of the Ōtara Youth Hub K-pop group OLA Squad, to represent New Zealand at the Changwon K-pop World Festival in South Korea.

Her achievement attracted attention from New Zealand media and was recognised in the minutes of Auckland Council's Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board.

Her involvement in K-pop reflected the growing connections between Korean popular culture and young people in Aotearoa New Zealand, including Māori and Pasifika communities.

Music education and community

Sorvana also worked as a part-time music teacher at Tangaroa College. Her involvement in music education and performance connected her with young people and the creative community of South Auckland.

Personal life and remembrance

Sorvana was the daughter of Mulipola Kolisi and Pesiti K. Williams. Her family memorial remembers her as a beloved daughter, a loving and adored sister, a proud and nurturing aunty, a compassionate and determined tutor, and a loyal and faithful friend.

A tribute published by Manurewa East School following her death in August 2025 remembered her for the joy and warmth she brought to the school community. The tribute described her bubbly personality as infectious and recalled her ability to make others feel valued.

Faith and legacy

Sorvana's memorial expresses her family's love and Christian faith. It includes the following tribute:

Though I have left this world, my legacy lives on in the love I shared and the lives I touched.

The memorial also features the biblical passage 2 Timothy 4:7:

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

Another verse included on the memorial is Matthew 5:8:

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Sorvana died on 10 August 2025, aged 21. She is remembered for her musical talent, her contribution to music education, her connection to her community, and the love she shared with her family and friends.
