|message=Reading Allen Jeston Craig’s memorial page is a beautiful reminder of the lasting impact one person can have on a family, a community, and future generations. His life reflects courage, perseverance, hard work, faith, and deep love for those around him.

From his early years in Samoa to his journey to New Zealand as a young teenager, Allen demonstrated determination and a strong sense of responsibility. Despite facing challenges and having limited opportunities for formal education, he continued learning, developed valuable skills, and built a successful working life through dedication and commitment.

What stands out most is that Allen’s achievements were not only for his own benefit. He generously shared his knowledge and experience, supported others, and contributed to his church and community. His willingness to help people learn and grow shows the kind of person he was: humble, caring, dependable, and always willing to make a positive difference.

As a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Allen created a legacy of love that will continue through the people who knew him. The memories shared by his family are a meaningful reflection of the special place he held in their lives.

May this memorial page remain a lasting place where family and friends can share stories, photographs, and treasured memories. May future generations learn about Allen’s journey, values, achievements, and the love he gave so freely.

Although Allen is no longer with us, his influence and memory will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who loved him. May he rest peacefully, forever remembered and forever loved.

The memorial commemorates Cardinal Mindszenty's visit to New Zealand in December 1974 and his pastoral connection with Hungarian Catholics living abroad.

== Cardinal József Mindszenty ==
'''József Mindszenty''' (29 March 1892 – 6 May 1975) was a Hungarian cardinal of the Catholic Church who served as Archbishop of Esztergom and Primate of Hungary from 1945 until 1973. He was created a cardinal by Pope Pius XII in 1946. :chatgpt-content-reference{index="1"}

Mindszenty became one of the most prominent Catholic figures in twentieth-century Hungary. He opposed both fascist and communist persecution and became particularly associated with resistance to the communist regime that took power in Hungary after the Second World War. :chatgpt-content-reference{index="2"}

In December 1948, he was arrested by the Hungarian communist authorities, subjected to interrogation and torture, and subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment in a show trial. During the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, he was released but later sought refuge in the United States Embassy in Budapest, where he remained for approximately fifteen years. :chatgpt-content-reference{index="3"}

In 1971, Mindszenty was permitted to leave Hungary and spent the remainder of his life in exile. During his later years, he undertook extensive pastoral journeys to visit Hungarian communities around the world. The Mindszenty Foundation records that he travelled to numerous countries and visited more than fifty towns as part of his efforts to strengthen the faith and national identity of Hungarian communities abroad. :chatgpt-content-reference{index="4"}

== Visit to New Zealand ==
In December 1974, Cardinal Mindszenty visited New Zealand during one of his pastoral journeys to Hungarian communities overseas.

His visit included Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Contemporary accounts from the Hungarian community in New Zealand describe the visit as an important event for the Hungarian diaspora. :chatgpt-content-reference{index="5"}

During his visit to Auckland, Cardinal Mindszenty celebrated Holy Mass with members of the Hungarian Catholic community.

The visit took place only a few months before his death in Vienna in May 1975.

His pastoral journeys were intended not only to strengthen religious faith but also to maintain the cultural and national identity of Hungarian communities living outside Hungary. :chatgpt-content-reference{index="6"}
Dad met Mum in Hawke’s Bay in the early 1970s, and their relationship blossomed into a beautiful marriage. Dad's journey took him from Samoa to New Zealand and eventually to Riverside, California, where he passed away.

'''Allen Jeston Craig''' (5 April 1935 – 8 September 2025) was a Samoan-born New Zealand electrical engineer, entrepreneur, and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He founded and managed his own electrical engineering company and was known for his dedication to family, service to others, and mentoring those around him.[[File:Allen Jeston Craig.jpg|center|thumb|468x468px]]

== Life Story ==

Dad was born in Samoa on 5 April 1935 and grew up there as one of eleven children. His parents were Alexander Sandy Craig and Marie Bourne. He had ten siblings, and his family remained deeply important to him throughout his life. His family would sometimes affectionately call him Moses.

His childhood was challenging. He grew up in poverty and, like many young people of his generation, did not have the opportunity to finish his formal education. At just 14 years old, Dad travelled to New Zealand to look for work so that he could help support his family back in Samoa. Leaving home at such a young age was a great sacrifice, but it became part of the strong, determined and hardworking man he would grow into.

Dad did not speak much about his childhood, but he loved being with his brothers and sisters. They had each other, and the bond between them was important to him. His mother and his siblings were among the people he held especially close to his heart.

Although Dad did not finish school, he never stopped learning. He completed courses and developed his skills in electrical engineering. Through hard work, determination and perseverance, he eventually built and managed his own electrical engineering company. His business became an important part of his life and enabled him to provide for his family.

Dad's success was never only about what he could achieve for himself. He believed in giving other people opportunities. He mentored many people who came to work for his business, shared his knowledge and skills, and gave people the opportunity to learn, grow and build a better future for themselves.

Dad was also a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Church became a central part of his life. He devoted himself to the operation and service of the Church and faithfully fulfilled every calling he was given. He gave his time, energy and heart to serving others, and he especially enjoyed ministering to people in the community. His faith was not simply something he believed in; it was something he lived.

Family was always at the heart of Dad's life. He was a much-loved uncle and was loved by his nieces and nephews. He especially enjoyed having family visit from out of town and loved opening his home to them. Hosting family, sharing time together and making people feel welcome were some of the ways he showed his love.

Dad met Mum in Hawke's Bay on 11 April 1977. Their meeting marked the beginning of their life together and the family they would go on to build. Dad's journey took him from Samoa to New Zealand and eventually to Riverside, California, where he passed away. He is now laid to rest at Manukau Memorial Gardens, surrounded by the love and memories of his family.

== Life Story ==
